Mary Baker Eddy answered this question when she stated, “Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause.”
––Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 313)

The primitive Christianity that Jesus practiced was based on the understanding of God, as the one primal cause and the effect of that understanding was healing. After much searching of the scriptures, MBE discovered the scientific laws of what Jesus had been teaching and practicing. She named that discovery Christian Science.

Jesus said, “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” John 14:12 As Christian Scientists, we take that as a promise that God’s power is still provable in our daily lives through healing.
